The latest Friday Flash Fiction prompt from Sarah Faxon gave me pause. As usual, I wanted to create a creepy tale using both prompts. However, although one was annoying, and the other possibly frightening, how could both be combined to truly terrify.
Hopefully, I pulled it off. Please let me know.
SIPPING IT SLOW
The coffee rations were supposed to last for the complete mission—five years there, and five years back. However, the calculations didn’t factor the stress of having to maintain the rotating defensive shifts.
Terror stimulates and taxes the mind. Caffeine helps. With thirty days left, recycled water and stale protein packets are not working. Sleep threatens. Death threatens.
Stress and terror also stink as it oozes from our pores, the mist shower off limits. Sleep beckons, even as we hear our commander’s fading groans. Cocooned and suspended in the pod, the spider-like alien savors his morning beverage, sipping slowly.

Very well crafted 👏
Good job!!!
