Another week, and another Flash Fiction Friday prompt from the extremely busy PHD candidate, Sarah Faxon . This week, her wonderful imagination gave us these two prompts:
The ocean’s tides make your characters weaker or stronger.
Your story starts with a shooting star.
Now, anyone familiar with my writing knows that I love a creative challenge and will always attempt to blend prompts together. That being said, please enjoy Starfish Dreams.
STARFISH DREAMS
Had it happened just minutes later, a rising tide would have hidden the marvelous portent that blazed a brilliant aquamarine path above the expectant tidal pool. Whispered by the dying coral and shared by the bioluminescent plankton as they danced along the surf, a savior was returning.
An orange starfish, sensing its dormant energy returning as the Mother Ocean rose again to envelope them with her life-giving embrace, reached out its fifth arm to wake the sleeping blue crab clinging next to an impertinent purple anemone.
A single towering tentacle breaks the bay’s surface. The age of humans ends tonight.
Just a quick reminder that there’s still one day left to vote on where my serialized Fantasy/Mystery story goes next. If you loved Choose-Your-Own-Adventure stories as a kid, you’ll love this adult version (no, not that kind of adult). The votes are currently tied…again.
